Clean Brits?

Following on from the previous thread regarding Tony Doyle it would seem that with a little scratching beneath the surface that the Brits aren't quite as beyond reproach as they would like us to think.

Their top pro team is run like a business in a very cut throat way, jobs for the boys, summary sackings and other less than ethical ways of working.

The win at all costs mentality of sky / news international will surely drive some of this and the team are basically following the tried and tested USPS path to victory. Recruiting dodgy ds, docs and riders as well as other practices such as trying to dictate the way journalists ask questions at press conferences.

I know that there are many rumours of covered up tests, positives etc but so far these are still very much kept under wraps, just like their 'mavic' wheels!!

What has anyone heard and do they think there is any substance to it or is it just sour grapes?

?

there are already many sky threads

trouble is nothing has been heard either the perfect cover up or zero story

there is suggestion but no news

sky do not allow previously sanctioned riders to ride for team sky

just because a doctor previously worked for a team with history does not demonstrate that they are now part of a doping programme

I'm more interested in the join up between the federation and sky and the skeletons around there.

It is possible to use unsanctioned riders if you have the sanctioning federation in your pocket - hence the question around covered up positives.

Signing riders you know to be dirty but haven't had a positive isn't the way of a clan team either.

Do you mean Brits who are new to following cycling, or those of us who have followed it for some time? I'm one of the latter and can think of British pros who doped in the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s, so I certainly don't think the Brits are beyond reproach. Given the small numbers of British continental pros during some of those decades, if one doped it was 100% of the cohort at that time! I would like the current crop to be clean, just as I'd like all cyclists to be clean, to allow the sport to recover from a catastrophic couple of decades. However this may be unrealistic.

?

but there is no news of covered up positives............have you seen otherwise? links would be helpful

if a rider has not been sanctioned they are clean when team sky consider signing
any suspicion is just innuendo

OK, maybe I'm not asking the right question.

Would the national fed be incentivised to keep adverse findings quiet as it would affect their pro team and possibly their funding? The pro team is in the unique position amongst other teams in that it has a certain amount of control over the national federation so is able to both be aware of tests that are not publicised and possibly have some level of control over them also.

Imagine if USPS was this close with a national federation. Is it something that is a concern or is there no way that there would be any collusion?

Just a question really, they dealt with one elevated hemacrit case publicly and straight down the line in the past but what do others think and maybe even have heard or know that is different now?

he posed a question.

No he did not, he stated

"I know that there are many rumours of covered up tests, positives etc but so far these are still very much kept under wraps, just like their 'mavic' wheels!!"

Im asking him where he heard about these rumors, he proceeds to ask what other people have heard, implying that he heard something.

If any team are clean its Sky

For most of the last 20 years I have heartily disliked Man United because they had all the money and all the best players .Its the same here for the majority with Sky they dont like them so they have to believe Sky cheat
The sport in Britain wouldnt survive if Sky were found to be cheats

I've seen alot say the same about American cycling when defending LA ^^ just saying and even just the normal sports. yet cheaters are there and some get found.. the circus still goes on however. (to the bold)

I dislike Man U aswell, but not because they are rich... I dislike them due to many of the players they had and their "cocky attitude" something I see in Sky aswell tbh..

If anything I would be surprised if Brites was not cheating (its actually not something bad, I think back on the medieval times) so well...

Does this mean all are a bunch of cheats and crazy people ?? no I like alot of brites and sure... some of them don't cheat!!! but anyone that believe a guy like Froome is clean is very ignorant im0 (thats my opinion!!) I guess its because one of my British friends knew Froome's family before they went to Africa (still know them) when he talks about how Froome doped in his youth.... why would he not do it now ^^

Its odd how some nationalities get offended when its their rider(s) that gets focused on in the clinic, they go all out defensive and flame the rest!! "just like as LA American fans" I've been called a jealous guy with the remark "just because your country sucks at sport) etc.. the fun thing is when one from my country won TDF :D I called cheat long before on him... why be so protective.. set aside the nationalistic aspect and look at the riders and teams instead.. do you really want a unfair cheating circus rather than a fair playing field ?? if you want the first, I would recommend American Wrestling for you.

I didnt aim to hurt anyone etc by this post.. this is just my opinion.

Have a good day.

Cool! Have you told Jonathan Vaughters and Bjarne Riis the happy news? I'm sure they'll be thrilled to know.

Also "innuendo": The word doesn't mean what you think it means.

Sky are clean. Why is that so unbelieveable?

Its not like the US Postal days because a lot of the peloton is now clean. for one Millar is definitely clean, yes? then how is he still competitive even though he's probably a bit past his best. The reason Sky are so dull is exactly because they are clean, and therefore 'human'.

A clean Millar at 36 would not have one a stage of the tour in Lance's era.

Lot of talk of the TdF riders using AICAR dope. THe UCI wont release their samples to retested.

Are so only British riders are clean til they're sanctioned. I don't suppose you'd care to explain how this reality warping effect is accomplished?

I doubt it, but there are dictionary where one can look up the correct definitions.

That is exactly how covering up any bad news would be justified and is what is worrying.

The sport will be better to be ride of armstrong and his results and will be better for being cleaner. I just wonder how we we know it is clean when there is still such a culture of cover up and omertà.

Has Jan Ullrich ever been officially sanctioned?

He has.

"In February 2012, Ullrich was found guilty of a doping offence by the CAS. He was retroactively banned from August 22, 2011, and all results gained since May 2005 were also removed from his Palmares.[1][2] After the decision, Ullrich published a statement on his website, that said he would not appeal the decision. He admitted that he had had contact with Fuentes, which he considered a mistake that he now regrets.[35]"
