Computrainer Alternatives

I've used a Computrainer for a long time, but the Computrainer software utterly and completely sucks at converting map data into ride simulations (****ing crashes).

Are there any alternatives to the Computrainer that do a decent job of allowing you to convert map data into simulated ride data?

Are there any alternatives to the Computrainer that have an open source API that let you program the software that drives the device?

Did you look at the Wahoo Kicker? There are lots of apps for it and more on the way that may do what you want. Check dcrainmaker reviews on it also.

Cheers

Watch + steep hill = ride fast up hill using your watch to time yourself.

You can apply this hi tech training method to all road types.

I'm also a long time CT user. I purchased the TOPO 5 Racermate edition along with the CT. Using this with the course creator program, I've been able to create the courses I've raced on. It's NOT perfect as adding "via" points along the course sometimes "confuses" the CT causing what I call "vortecs" where the on-screen rider spins around... but then continues on his way. And an out and back course can be strange as well. But, in in both cases, the overall ride is not adversely affected as far as the gradient or distance or power curve, etc...just the visual aspect. Using this has never caused a computer crash.
Now, Racermate has discontinued the TOPO 5 racermate edition ( they said not enough sales of the product), but you might be able to find a used copy somewhere. It was originally a Windows 98 version (I think), but worked fine with Windows XP, and still workes fine with my 64 bit Windows 7 version.
I know it's a dated product, but I'm old too and I don't have any of the new GPS tracking devices...no Garmin, no smart phone apps etc..

Its not a map program but you should give veloreality a shot, works perfect with Computrainer, software is free & they have a cool free 4 mile demo that includes Koppenberg that will loop endlessly for the interval session from hell!
