Contador greatest rival?

Alberto Contador has won the last 6 GTs he entered . Considering Alberto's career who has been his most signifcant challenger?

First we can notice that Contador have had 5 different dauphin (Evans, Leipheimer, Ricco, Scarponi, A.Schleck)

Contador -Schleck : a rivalry in the Armstrong-Ulrich style, Schleck finished always second behind Contador.

Contador-Ricco : In 2008 Ricco considered himself as the official rival of Contador but he was beaten by a Contador who just came back from the playa.

Contador-Armstrong : teamates and rivals in 2009, interesting combat!

In fact, the only one who have dominated Contador in a GT since 2007 was Rasmussen in 2007. They offered us a spectacular duel during the 2007 Tour by attacked them each other several times, and before his exclusion Rasmussen had masteriezd the Tour.
It s more a rivalry in the Merck-Ocana 1971 style

ya i think thats the best answer for this thread.

rasmussen was indeed able to to beat contador but we can't forget that it was a 24 year old contador on his second GT.

ricco was beaten by an not on 100% contador with a broken elbow (even tho we do not hear about it as much as we hear about cry evans broken elbow)

armstrong was never a rival. contador knew that he could put time on armstrong at will(like he did)

schleck is a tough rival. but he got beaten by contador by 4 minutes once and was still beaten by not on top shape contador last year by 30 seconds. also the fact that he lacks the panache and class of contador doesn't help his case.

I think life. He had the cavernoma that took time to diagnose, and he gambled on the surgery after missing a Tour de France. The ASO kept him out of two - one at the time of Puerto and the other because he joined the revamped Astana after Vino. That got him a Giro and a Vuelta. Then Armstrong came back out of the blue and pretended he didn't have a contract, and pretty much took over Astana with Bruyneel, abusing Alberto in the hotel dining rooms, getting him yelled at for attacking and taking a stage, making him come up with his own TT wheels to compete. Then Armstrong abused him in the press while Bruyneel used his time on the Astana payroll to build Radio Shack, dismantle Astana, and keep someone else from coming in to hire replacements, all while Contador was held hostage. This past year it was the UCI and WADA.

Contador FTW

i dont get why the people says that... whats the reason for think that andy schleck was at 100% form in tdf 2009 and contador it wasnt in tdf 2010?
i dont say that they are at the same level but at least i would give the benefit of doubt for be imo in the same level in mountains in tdf 2010

I think the French public will be Contador's new rival, if Lance got spit on in 2003 up the Alpe d'Huez TT, I'm thinking Contador should expect much worse.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The CAS isn't Contador's biggest rival because I did some research about his arbitrators. His biggest rivals are 'cyclingling fans' in Germany. Believe me that I know what I'm talking about.

His own ambition probably. Wanting to do the Giro-Tour double and maybe one year even a triple might give him more troubles than Andy ever will on his own.

lol. I think his greatest foe this yr is definetly the 2 GT's he is doing.

Also it is surprising that Rasmussen did not win any GT's in the LA era in any mountainous TDF. I think like Ulrich he was just completly dominated.

Whaaaaat? You are joking? The Contador Schleck rivalry involves Contador riding his own pace, and Schleck sitting on his wheel. Ullrich used to put pressure on Armstrong.

Comparing Schleck to Ulrich is frankly insulting of Ullrich.

Michael Rasmussen. He's been the only person to flat out own Contador. It is such a shame that he got kicked out of the TdF 2007 and it's a bigger shame that we haven't got to see him and Contador go at it again. I thought their TdF battle is the best I've ever seen. I think he's a great rival for Contador, but I'd like to see how he could match up against Contador's TT skills of today and additional mountain climbing abilities.

Ricco was also a really good contender for Contador. Again, just like Rasmussen, it's a shame we didn't get to see him go up against Contador once more. I think if anyone could do it, he might just be able to.

Schleck is a good rival too, but I can't see him dropping Contador. I think he had a chance right before he dropped his chain but that's it. Contador is looking too strong right now while Schleck doesn't look so hot coming out of the TdS. Schleck also still hasn't got the TT thing figured out which will cost him even if he's in the lead.

Would have liked to have seen what Armstrong could have done against him a few years earlier, but I think the retirement and them being on the same team really hurt Lance.

Ullrich only really put pressure on Armstrong in 2003. 2010 might have been Contador's 2003. Who knows.

Rasmussen in 2007.

This year: His giro-tour double.

The last stage in which Rasumssen participated in the 2007 TdF was very dramatic. I recall AC and Levi (maybe I'm wrong) attacking Rasmussen multiple times until they cracked. Rasmussen took off and put time into both Disco (or was it Astana?) riders.
