Well, Selfish Van Aert did basically win Paris Nice for him this year. So I think that's worth a few kms in a relatively meaningless stage in the Dauphine.

This plus I don't think it was that good stage for stomp, there will be better (this one was too fast in the last km). Primoz himself said he hadn't been in a position to win while OTOH Wout for sure was (but f**ked it up in a rare fashion).

Not quite a Win-Win Situation

No, of course it isn't. But it's hard for me to bear. I spent so much time here that it feels like I'm among friends, and then I realize, no they are not, they just share one single interest with me, and it feels like somebody's hitting me in the face, even if it shouldn't. I know it's my problem and I need to find a solution to it for myself.
Embrace diversity. Embrace CN.

EDIT: The flipside is that diversity is harmful and overrated. Your pick.

Ganna or van Aert are reasonable choices. As for Rogla i don't know. Will he approach it with 90% or 110%. There is a chance he will go all in. Due to Tour ITT profile. In that case anything is possible. And he didn't stomp yesterday ... On the other hand i don't feel he needs to go that deep. On this race.

We'll see.

Congratulations to David Gaudu for snatching the stage win.

Personally i guess i got what i wanted from this stage. That is for Rogla to sacrifice a perfectly good stomp opportunity for a higher goal. I guess sometimes you must be careful for what you wish for as it might come true.

But OK. If JV decided they want to win this stage and for the team to 100% back van Aert. From this point of view they did a good job. That trick Rogla used. To bring back van Aert. It was rather special. And Rogla looked strong.

Looking forward to ITT.
That was strong teamwork, Roglic hitting the front and slowing it down like an old school patron of the peloton combined with a super strong bit of riding from Jonas to casually drop back to pick up Wout and fly back to the front on turbo. Wout did not have the snap power in his sprint as the climb took too much out of him regardless of the celebrating early. Gaudu was much quicker.

Nah. Wout got arguably the 3 most prestigious wins in the Tour last year and that’s career highlight palmares for most, and he still could’ve dommed for Roglic.

Jumbo would come out of the Tour with nothing if not for Wout on any tour that Pog wins Aka not Roglic. If the battle gets to the point where they’re neck and neck in the final week then he could shut down the stage hunting. As far as that goes, has Wout ever not been there for Roglic in a time of need?

Roglic is maybe Pogacar’s biggest threat but I just don’t buy that Wout being 10% more fresh is the difference maker in a Tour victory.

To me the issue is their strengths collide. For Roglic, his best chance of beating Pogacar is outsprinting him at the end of hard stages with an uphill finish and gaining bonus seconds.

For WVA, his best chance of winning green is winning those same stages as all the other sprinters are gone.

They both cant contest those stages so you've an issue, never mind potential issues of the cobbled stage if Roglic gets dropped, do Jumbo drop WVA back.
