pros would be good weather, and easy access to different terrain for the riders personal training (mountains and flatland both)

Roche used to be in Varese if I remember correctly but he recently moved to Monaco (source;....his dad said it during an interview during last Tour).

Froome used to live I think around Varese as well, then in Tuscany and now moved elsewhere (cant remember where).

The usual "base" would be in Tuscany around Lucca (also thanks to Srm italian headsquare), in Lombardy between Varese and Bergamo and then Lake of Garda.

Katusha has its base along the Lake of Garda on the Verona side while Coldeportes is supposed to be on the Brescia's side.

Kreuzinguer and Fugslang used to have a house in Bardolino but they recently left Italy (just heard about it few weeks ago).
Rasmussen still live in Bardolino and years ago I heard of Andy having bought a house there but didnt hear anything since then.

CAS also moved to Lucca 2 years ago. Said it was due to the coffee.

I heard it was because he wanted some actual mountains to train it. But of course that might have been the official reason...

There are also plenty of mountains around Girona (Spain) which I recall he mentioned on his blog as another option. I'm not saying the coffee is particularly bad there, but it seems to be the deciding factor. That and the fact that all riders seem to have replaced Girona with Lucca in recent years. Maybe he just wanted to be around other riders.
