Hi there,
Does anyone own or has anyone tried one of these? I'm considering investing in one so would appreciate any comments.
Thanks in advance,
D

Better of getting a nice bike and a tacx for using indoors and then you have the best of both worlds for the same money.

Thanks. I did think about the turbo option. I've already got a fairly decent road bike which I use for all occasions (including commuting throughout the year). I borrowed a cheap turbo trainer and set it up in my shed but it was really noisy and difficult to get the resistance right. I reckoned the advantages of a fixed indoor trainer would be (1) I don't need to keep fitting/removing the bike to/from the trainer on a daily basis (especially given that the bike can get quite mucky during the winter commutes, and I thought a turbo trainer required a specific type of rear tyre?), and (2) I have read in a few places that indoor bikes are much quieter than turbo trainers, which is an important factor for me.

Does anyone have any comments about the noise generated from a turbo versus an indoor bike?

Thanks in advance,

D

I have used a Kurt Kinetic trainer and now have a Real Axiom CT trainer. Both produce little noise and it is definitely easy to hear the TV above the noise of both the trainer and fan.

I have a bike permanently setup on the trainer. I live in Ottawa, so am on the trainer from November-December to March-April. During the bike season, I have my 'cross bike on the trainer and during the 'cross season and winter I have my road bike on the trainer.

No experience with Cycleops indoor trainers though.

If you want to go down that route the I am pretty sure for less than the price of one of those you can get the Watt bike, which is considered the benchmark of its type

Personally I am fortuanate to live in a place where I ride in 0dC about twice a year, so all I need is rollers
