Hitch, do you have any clip in particular that you would consider one of his earliest or him at his youngest? Just curious. Thanks.

They don't come that early since there isnt as great a record of the ones from the 70's and 80's and the earliest one I remember seeing was about the 88 presidential election.

Would have been in his late 30's.

I did like this one from 1993.

Hitchens biggest obituary or funeral speach/tribute luckily would be held at cyclingnews forum thread and that is what he deserve. No real respect from his community and not because his something radical new good ideas are not accepted, but mainly he did not deserve it and no one held this guy for serious, well maybe he achieve something: “ Hitchens, Bring us some medium dry votka Martini“ quote from „Writer Heaven Club“

His second class communist papers would not reach any school or university maybe some Marxist sleeping cell and his work would be forgotten for 6 months on. For his biggest failure I held his inability for not achieve fatwa no matter how he desire to rise himself from second class communist journalist to late hour CNN debate guest, even Muslim radical held that intellectual midget as irelevant low value target and would not spare any ammo on him.

In fact their CNN and Fox colleagues gave him payed minutes between weather forecast and sport news for 2000 years old ideas of atheism, zionism, God, alcholism or whatever today, poor western Mc ******* might love and would payed for.
He made nothing spectalular so whatever, only signs that western society are so ****ed up cos reading those garbage. Yes he was brilliant in only way, he was not boring, something like Jamie Oliver „The naked chef“ and Dancing with the stars show
„The people who write that kind of stuff never fight; possibly they believe that to write it is a substitute for fighting. It is the same in all wars; the soldiers do the fighting, the journalists do the shouting, and no true patriot ever gets near a front-line trench, except on the briefest of propaganda-tours.“

Thanks. I just found this one from 1983 (very short, under a minute)

Which led me to this:

Be sure the search filter is set to "Least Recent." There are about half a dozen clips from the 80s, along with other, more recent ones.

I see youve linked to both Fora and C Span now. I love both, thought Fora has gone a bit downhill since 2007 imo. Isnt C Span subscription though?

You watch Intelligence Squared? its not all good but I think its a great place to discover top quality speakers and intellectuals who arent necessarily seen in mainstream political debate.

Have you made your point yet?

Btw, what does this mean?

Or else what? He wasted absolutely no time in flaunting his recent ban. Isn't that enough?

C-Span isn't subscription here. Not sure if it's geo-restricted elsewhere though.

Wasn't aware of Intelligence Squared...until now. ;)

Personally, that's exactly how I feel about the "anti-snitch" culture - like someone wants us all to behave as though we are in a gang or a prison.

Speaking of prison, even the most vociferous red-baiters, to my knowledge, haven't red-baited Hitchens - except here on the cycling news forum. He maybe deserves to be attacked from the left for what was arguably his late loss of spine - and he has been thus attacked -; but it really looks ridiculous to attack him from the right, solely on the basis of his rather mild-mannered socialism. It looks like some sort of knee-jerk reaction, and not a reasoned argument. As flawed intellectuals go, there are a great number in line ahead of Hitchens when it comes to being disdain worthy.

Jesus wept. We've got fourteen pages on the death of a somewhat controversial journalist whom the vast majority of people have never even heard of, for the one and only reason that one CN poster is so infatuated with the man that he's taken his name as his nick and his picture as his avatar, and because he feels the need to respond to every comment that is less than adulatory!

No one in their right mind could believe that this man deserves ten times the attention of, say, Vaclav Havel. Enough already, please!
