Di2 Ultegra protection function

I hit a pot hole on the road yesterday that set off the protection function and dis-engaged the motor on the rear derailleur. I have followed the procedure to reconnect in the Di2 factory owners manual to the letter with no success. I have manually moved the derailleur up, down, left and right, but still no engagement. Occasionally it will shift one or two gears when re-trying the reset process with the red light on, but after the one move, it moves no more. Does any one have a similar experience, does any one know what I have to do to fix it?
p.s. I was at the end of a 2.5 hour ride around the local hills, just up the hill from home, thank goodness. I thanked the stars this incident did not occur earlier in the ride where I still had to negotiate 20 or so climbs to get back home with no rear gear changing. I have used Campagnolo for the last 15 years so it was a big step to move to Shimano.
I am disappointed that this system does not come with a quicker and simpler way of being fixed. There doesn't seem much point in having an innovation such as Di2 if the risk of not being able to use it after a bump on the road is such a strong likelihood. Please excuse my negativity here, but remember, I only hit a bump on the road, I did not crash. Previously I would have needed to have torn the rear derailleur off the frame to have had a similar result. i.e. walking home, or hitching a ride.

This would probably have a better chance at getting an answer in the Gear section, rather than here.

Agh, the classic motor separation failure. I'd take it apart and see if it can re-attach, you might of broken the lever/guide.
