Did Tyler ever confirm Steffen claim??

Ok I didn't buy the book.

I'm wondering if the book confirmed this event;

Another team doctor, Prentice Steffen, claimed in 2001 that he had been fired by the team for his refusal to supply Hamilton and then-teammate Marty Jemison with performance-enhancing drugs. Steffan reported the riders’ alleged request to team managers and was fired soon after that. Steffen’s charges were outlined in a book written by Sunday Times of London chief sports writer David Walsh and former L’Equipe reporter Pierre Ballester.

No I don't remember that he did. The book is a really interesting read though. I believe him. Armstrong is a true psychopath. Read the book. Heaps of cool info in it. I think Floyd Landis comes out best in the book. Sounds like a cool dude.

he said he didn't recall the episode but indicated that it sounded plausible given his worries at the time

I'll assume thats an attempt at humour.

But I'm interested in what Tyler NOW says about the incident.

Not sure what happened there. I didn't see the need to repeat what was written above. To sum it up,

1) Tyler states he has no memory of this request but also does not deny it could have happened. He simply does not recall the conversation.

2) Jemison is quoted in the book denying this ever happened. He says he spoke to Prentice only about legal options to enhance performance.

Tyler now says that they were asking for vitamin shots but Prentice Steffen misunderstood.

Buy the book. On the surface, it largely confirms most of what many of us have suspected. It's not until you put it down and think about the information in totality that it really hits you. And then the sheer scale and depth of the pollution within cycling culture will blow you away. Read it. It's in a different league to any of the other cycling "dark side" books.

Jemison says it never happened.

Marty told Coyle that Prentice was mistaken. Others he told it did happen and Prentice's account was spot on.

But Marty has always been a bit conflicted.

I didn't know this about him. He has talked about doping so at this point why not come clean all the way? Odd behavior.

Hey race, after reading that LA called the UCI on Tyler and ratted him out. It makes me wonder about Floyd's positive. I know he was retired then but do you think LA could have orchestrated that positive test because he didn't want Floyd to win? Floyd still denies that testosterone positive and an echo positive was not likely. Makes me wonder if he could pull this off. He certainly hated to see others win.

I have not heard Floyd claim this, but lets see what comes out later this week.

Marty is indeed a odd guy.

A few points if possible

Best seller list. My local bookstore here in Melbourne had 8 on order when I asked about it in early Sept. I got it through book depository in the end, hard back and $18. very happy. Anyone know how to know how many sales it has/ had?

Steffen- the above comments are how I read it. In the context of the book, I can't see any reason why he would want to lie about it. He really did tell all. As he says he may have- but I think he's being polite to Steffen. I think he'd remember if he did.

Context.

I read the David Millar book at the same time- good cheap buy while on line. It arrived before TH's book.

I thought that was a no put downer. DM and TH seemed to experience the same moments which led to why they did what they did.

What struck me as curious is as you say_after_you read the book.

Impressions

Overwhelming insight into LA. TH really does try to come off as being a no fusser kind of guy. Sure that could be marketing, but you can't but have to go back and read it to confirm the thoughts rattling around your head- sure LA was driven, and professional, but man, he is psychopath as well. If LA wasn't a cyclist he'd be head of a fortune 500. Classic personality traits.

Institutionalised
Did David Millar tone his book down, or was he naive to what was going on in other teams- as in the_extent_ it was going on?

Fear factor

DM explains a big moment in his personal recovery was being publicly approached and accepted by (the outgoing) head of Tour of France (was it Leblanc??) and getting a handshake in front of everyone

TH says he was persona non grata when he tried to come back. Recounts a dark moment with Levi Leipheimer and others

Key take out:

* Cycling will chew you up and spit you out
* Don't cross LA, he will seek to destroy you
* Floyd is a character
* I thought I knew about cycling before I read this book, clearly I knew NOTHING
* There are a lot of good people living with lies that burden them
