Hat's off to those who were there. I remember speaking to an old bloke who managed to return as only one of 17 out of a whole battalion - truly inspiring stuff. You will never be forgotten.
I used to have the honour of interviewing vets, including on one memorable occasion a WW1 vet. I heard some amazing stories. The British expat who gleefully told me about "the bloody great knee-shaker in a bomb crater" particularly stands out. No Dunkirk vets though. That operation was such a seminal event. If the germans had bagged that lot it would have been essentially the end.
