And I'm another one.
Not only has Wevelgem a course identity, but also a historical identity. Always been a well-known classic since the 50's when Bartali and Kübler came by, while the race was not even a DCC race.
E3 was created in the 60's and back then it was hardly anything more than a big kermess. It was called Harelbeke-Antwerp-Harelbeke. Bunch sprint every year until the 90's when they strengthened the route, ripping climbs off from the Tour of Flanders.
It's heresy. I mean, you may organized a dozen races around Kwaremont/Patersberg/Trieu but what's the point ?? There are climbs enough in that area, pick your own !
E3 is as if the Arrow or GP de Wallonie had Wanne/Stockeu/Haute Levée, just like Liège.
Could you imagine GP Fourmies or Isbergues with the Carrefour de l'Arbre ??
Laigueglia Trophy with the Poggio (di Sanremo)?
That's crazy. The great thing about these climbs/sections is their rarety. One climb, one race.
Volk/Ghent-Ghent/Nieuwsblad or Paris-Brussels deserve WT status much more in my opinion. But the problem is, I hate WT. I'm for the old UCI ranking (or an ATP-equivalent ranking, to make things clear).
