El enigma del señor X

El enigma del señor X

Spanish newspaper ABC says it believes that Jorg Jaksche or Michele Scarponi may be the ‘protected witness’ the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) planned to call in last November’s hearing at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne regarding Alberto Contador’s positive test for clebuterol during the 2010 Tour de France. In a further twist, former Giro d’Italia director Angelo Zomegnan, writing in his blog in the Gazzetta dello Sport, has urged the mystery witness to come forward, and has also said Saxo Bank manager Bjarne Riis should not be allowed to hold a UCI licence.

Michele Scarponi had something big to gain. LOL.

Italian Michele Scarponi, set to be awarded the 2011 Giro title which Contador will lose: "Together with my team, Lampre-ISD, I acknowledge the decision by the CAS in the Contador case. I'm very sorry for Alberto... This decision doesn't change the value of the results I obtained and my upcoming goals."

I have heard from several people that it was neither rider but the "Astana Insider" in the Humo article.

What do you make of that possibility?

I have always thought the Humo article was correct. WADA's case essentially mirrored it. I would not be surprised if the source was also a witness

Down in the Aldirto thread, I've been hanged out to dry, called "ignorant" (GBJ), "dyslectic" (Nillson), and alot more, all for assuming the HUMO article might have been correct (read: for letting common sense prevail). :(

But the witness was supposed to talk about 2005 and 2006.

As for the ABC article, it doesn't actually say it was Jaksche or Scarponi. If you read the original, the author comes across as having basically no idea.

I assume the mystery witness could also have been David Etxebarria.
Remember him slamming AC via twitter last year?
"Don't cry now, when previously you remained silent"

Intriguingly, Zomegnan, who says that he would not normally agree with sources wishing to protect their anonymity but believes that the circumstances here may outweigh that, has also issued a public appeal for WADA’s ‘Mr X’ to come forward and share what he knows, potentially making public any allegations that can be substantiated.

I think we owe it largely to the UCI that Mr. X is rather hesitant to publicly come forward. Mr. X will be aware of how the UCI has 'welcomed' whistleblowers such as Floyd, Jaksche, Hamilton and others.
