Eros Capecchi top ten in Vuelta

Who is this guy?

Do you have palmares?

He's been somebody who's been poised to break out for a couple of years now but hasn't done it. He's got a lot of potential but he just hasn't really stepped up. Still, he has some decent results to speak of:

(yes, that is outclimbing Igor Antón, though admittedly way away from Antón's season goals that year)

If he does, it's just by being Nibali's right hand man in the mountains and nothing else.

That's a pretty impressive way to get a top 10, isn't it?

Depends how deep the rest of the field is. Joaquím Rodríguez made it to the top 10 in 2009 without being seen once except when he was dragging Valverde around. That year Dani Moreno managed 11th, Kiryienka 16th and Szmyd 17th just from domestiquing; while Tiralongo in 8th, Navarro in 13th, Zubeldia in 14th and Vázquez in 15th barely appeared on screens on the way to their results, just following. Hell, Vladimir Karpets made it to 12th last year domestiquing for Rodríguez.

Actually making it to the top 10 whilst visibly doing that job would be mightily impressive unless Nibali cracks and Capecchi has to drag him to the finish on multiple days. I don't see it happening myself.

He has ever been like a promising riders since he turned pro but as Libertine said, he never really stepped up.
He has been a decent domestique until now, althought this year he was well below his standards.

Helping VN and riding for GC is not really a conflict, VN helped IB and get the third place at the same time in the giro

I like his style very much, I'll certainly follow him. But I don't think he's riding for a GC, helping Nibali is priority number 1 of course.

I hope he does, but it seems unlikely. Currently 20th, 1.25 behind Chavanel, 1.09 behind Nibali.. I suppose he'll take it easy in the time trial, and lose a minute or two to the genuine contenders. So, it depends on how long he can keep up for nibali in the mountains. Maybe, if it was a stated, subsidiary goal for the team to get him in the top ten, but this is all for Nibali. He'll work for Nibali as long as he's able, then take it easy to the finish, instead of over-exerting himself to defend a top-20.
