So reckoning went well and Rogla rode on the descent twice as it's fast and technical. Flat sections will be decisive and Rogla still feels Vuelta in his legs but said that the plan for tomorrow is to push it to the limit and if achieving that he will be happy regardless of the result.

16:31 (CET).

I called it last week. It's like Pog finishing 3 minutes down in Glasgow last year.

It's one of those races during the year where we just know Rog has no chance. It happens. No biggie.

I expect nothing next Sunday either. If there's a race which is actually 'on his radar', it'll be Lombardia. But even that is a real longshot.

Think if you're in recovery mode from a GT it's easier to do a 6 hour road race than to do a 55 minute ITT

I fully expect Rog to get blamed on social media when Pog doesn't become world champ.

I think today was Rog's first appearance in his national colors... since the 2021 Worlds, actually. It's always been either awesome (Olympic gold, silver in the 2017 ITT) or a bit *** (like taking the blame for WvA in Imola).

I can't wait for this to be over & he can get back into his team colors.

Do you really think he won't?
That scenario can happen if he doesn't give a s#it to help Pogacar. For me, he has a free role. He is too big to be just a helper even if I think Pogacar is clearly the overwhelming favourite.

It's the Worlds.

Anything can happen. It's not as selective as some monuments or classics (& certainly GT's). It's a huge slog of course and an endurance test but I don't know, I get the feeling something similar to Carapaz winning Tokyo's gold might happen.

That's my predication anyway.

Depends if Roglic actually helps in some way or pulls an Ayuso. Though if Pogacar wins/loses and it’s from Roglic covering Evenepoel I can see blame coming out.

Honestly I have no idea what Rog would even do for Pog. If Pog has the legs, then he's just going to 'ride away'. What's Rog going to do for him? Fetch some bottles? They'll have guys positioned all over the circuit for that.

The only value Rog can actually provide Pog is one of second leader, aka sitting on the tail of the chasing group for as long as he can survive.

Roglic can do what Yates do for Pogacar. 500m sprint in the red just to kill everyone else before Pogacar's attack.

What did Majka do for Pogacar in Montreal? Someone needs to set a pace to suffocate everyone, and then Pogacar attacks

And... why on earth would he do that?

Yates and Majka are paid by UAE to do that. What's Rog getting? A sense of national duty? I mean this doesn't make any sense. People always get so hung up about teammates sacrificing themselves in cycling but the Worlds are different. Especially when you're talking about Rog and Pog. And anyway Rog has been on the receiving end of the other side of that argument, i.e. when he got dogpiled for not pulling enough for his Jumbo teammate Van Aert in Imola.

So there's always going to be some p*ssed off group at the Worlds, aka drama junkies who erect 'teamwork' and sacrifice for the leader as the sine qua non of pro cycling at all costs (with the high priest of teamwork aka Chris Horner always ready to pounce when someone transgresses the 'code'), national fans who want the gold at all costs and will dogpile Rog if Pog doesn't win it and then fans from the countries of his Red Bull teammates who might think he didn't repay some of the work those guys did for him in the Vuelta by pulling for them in the Worlds (it's happened before, aka the aforementioned Van Aert debacle).

Long story short, I don't like the World Championships.

He won't do that. Maybe only if he knows he's done, 2-3 laps from the finish, and to give that last effort if Pogacar wants to go. In the last lap, no chance I think.., it's every man for himself.
If they're together in the same group at that stage he should absolutely do that.

The real complexity is if there's attacks and the group is grinded down to 20 guys, and there's no other Slovenians outside of Pog and Rog.
