Bjarne Riis has said to the danish media, that he believe that Alex Rasmussen(HTC) could beat Fabian in the Time trail at the 2011 UCI Road World Championships in Copenhagen/Rudersdal. Do you think thats realistic?

It's only realistic in the sense that Cancellara is probably going to skip the WC time trial in favor of the road race. There is 0% chance that Alex Rasmussen could beat Cancellara otherwise, Tony Martin is the only cyclist with any chance of beating him.

What Lanark said :). Plus its probably a stab at Cancellara for leaving Riis' team..
Rasmussen left his team as well...

Anyway, his directeurs sportifs seem very impressed by the guy, he's apparently a raw talent, and he almost won the Giro TT already. But he's older than Tony Martin, who is of course much further ahead in the TT department.

Maybe 2012. And unless f Cancellara breaks away from all companions he shall not win in an uphill sprint from a group of 2-50

cancellara can break away from the peloton at will:D

if the likes of horner and leipheimer can win ToC and TdS, then anything's possible

I wonder if it's Riis playing mind games with both riders - false hope for one and cheap shot at the other

I have heared the story before that Rasmussen had incredible potential but was always a little lazy. So maybe if Rasmussen started to work harder or is going to start to work harder he can do it although I think this year is at least 1 to early (if Canc would ride).

maybe in a year or two. but on the other hand, i guess Cance's focus will be on the road race this year and Rasmussen is at home, why not, although rather unlikely still.

The question is also whether Cance has any motivation to continue collecting ITT world championship titles going forward. I think he is not really interested, he strongly prefers to focus on other things going forward...

Unlikely, but stranger things have happened. Plus, Rasmussen will be at home and ultra-motivated.

However, it's definitely more likely that Matti Breschel wins the R.R. than Rasmussen winning the TT.

The funny thing in my mind is that I've been expecting people to start speculating about Alex Rasmussen for Worlds for a while now--just not for the TT.

I don't think it's at all clear that Breschel will be the only protected rider in the road race. Breschel certainly deserves the respect given his past worlds performances, but the Copenhagen circuit suits Rasmussen very, very well, too.

Rasmussen is probably Denmark's fastest finisher. Breschel needs to continue to rehabilitate and improve to be certain of the sole team captain's role.

Still finished only 4th behind guy that is 21 year old and a climber

How do you figure that Quaade is a climber? The guy's best results over the past several years are in ITTs, TTTs, pursuits, and team pursuits. His extensive track background as a development rider is pretty typical of a rider with a future in road TTs or flat & fast road racing scenarios. Of course, that doesn't mean he can't climb.

Ha ha :D. Quaade was actually doing better than taylor phinney in the U 23 TT WC last year, before crashing out.

As mentioned before Alex Rasmussen should go for the road race instead. And he should definitely lose some weight!

presumably, this was referring to Fuglsang.

However, yes, a 4th place at the Danish Championships doesn't bode well for a podium place at the worlds.
