I agree. No way Landis would have beaten a fully jacked Basso.

Best cyclist in the world in 2006 was probably Boonen.

Not given the way he smoked the Giro.... might as well have been 3400 VAMs.

Landis exploited the situation, and apart from the bad day, was the best rider in the race (of those who took the start).

The display of Tour of California, Paris-Nice, Tour de Georgia, TdF... that is enough to be recognized as best cyclist for that year.

IIRC, Landis was #2 in the ProTour standings that year, to Valverde.
