(that’s not the official title, just the title of the thread).
We all know that there are ranking sites out there, and some very good ones (especially cq).
But there are some flaws and overlooked aspects on these sites, or perhaps things that some of us would just like to do differently.
So Im just thinking out loud here, why not create our own ranking system.
A joint project by top, dedicated cycling fans to take place over the next year and launch for the 2013 season.
There would be 3 purposes to this exercise
1 To create an accurate rankings system for us fans to use (together with the others).
2 To maybe use in some of the increasing number of awesome games that we play on these forums
3 Most importantly – for fun. Satisfaction. Something to put the the gigatrons of cycling knowledge around on these forums (and seemingly loads of free time) to use for.
Key aspects of this ranking that would separate it from other rankings would be
1 Points for domestique work.
2 Giving races their own points based on their worth and not just giving 20 races in a catergory the same points, – eg Paris Nice not worth as much as Eneco just cos UCI says so. Maybe not even worth as much as TDS.
Maybe queen stages or legendary MTFs like Angliru more points than say Montvergine.
3 Bonus points on occasion for super efforts (eg Nieve Gardeccia, Schleck Galibier. Sylwester Szmyd like domestique efforts. And bonus points for all riders on super tough weather conditions like KBK 2010.
4 A slighlyt bigger look at the South American, Portugese, Iranian etc race scenes (they are given very little or even 0 on the other rankings websites).
5 Maybe, an u23 catergory
Others to follow.
This would not be an independent project but a collective project of volunteers from the forums sharing their expertise of cycling, of the interwebs, of spreadsheets, of catergories within cycling etc
(eg Would need Madrazo, Kazistuta, youngest , experts for u23 catergories, )
Would need an eventual panel of experts to decide once the game is in play, as to who deserves bonys points, or what races do.
And hopefully make it into something we could all be proud of.
Or it could bomb totally and I just wasted 15 minutes
If we can get a number of volunteers interested in helping out then we can perhaps proceed to a to do list, a plan.
Together we can achieve anything.
So who’s in.
