Is Kloden riding too? If not I see in the tour RNT might use him as back-up plan for Andy
Yes he is

Basso will be good once push comes to shove in the latter stages (literally), never count him out until the Stelvio.

Of course Frank didnt peak for Giro but he wasnt bad at Ardennes just had a bit of bad luck and he generally has better form year round than Andy.
Considering how Frank was at Vuelta 10 where he didnt peak for it, I would say a top5 would be more realistic but seeing that a lot will be decided in the last week and considering that a asides from probably basso and someone from Lampre (and kind off Kreuziger and Gadret) the riders challenging will probably not be used to 3 week racing he could take some time there and set it up for podium but I would say its unlikely even considering the unexperienced field.

Whether he will be able to recover in time to a force at all in the tour in order to help his brother is another question and I am a bit doubtful of that as asides from Contador guys like Gadret and Kreuziger who finished top 10 Giro but then could only not even be a domestique for their team mates in the tour, so even considering that this years edition will be easier I find it hard to imagine Frank having much of an impact at the Tour and the same can be said for Kloden unfortunately for him as the TT km would have suited him.

Are you sure Kloden is riding too??
so far I can't find official news about Kloden's participation.

Do you have a link to share?

I actually think sneaky Johan will not put all eggs into one basket especially so many TT miles this year, Kloden might be his secret weapon in the tour. I highly doubt Kloden will ride the Giro, just my two cents:D

95% sure, he has been on all the start lists I have seen so far but like you I havent been able to find any thing official

Here goes, even if Klöden rides the giro, I fully expect that it would be as preparation for the Tour, not for GC,

And it's a bit odd that a team that didn't bother with the Giro in 2010 and sent Machado is a captain in 2011 suddenly decided to care about the Giro.

Well, their results this year have been disastrous. They really have to deliver something soon.

True, and Frank captain at the Giro means (hopefully!) that the "both of us on the podium" bull**** will be over at the tour.

Yeh I think you're right as it would explain the fact that a)Fuglsang was leader and b)they then needed to head that team with another a leader so they brought in Schleck instead of putting more responsibilty on Kloden.

Just a bit miffed as to why a 37 year old rider who certainly knows how to get himself into shape and is certainly not doing his bodies any favours by riding two GTs successively would use the Giro as preparation.

I really think that Johan is slapping the Schlecks around a little....
and Frank on his own just may be a big surprise.

As far as Ivan, he has been around enough to know how to conserve energy and do damage when it is on the line....once again I would not write him off.

Klöden is only 37 ;)

I think in one of his early season interviews he said that he would do the Giro if he had a bad spring. Ok, maybe he will fly in the TT tomorrow (which I doubt), but so far he seemed to have struggled with form.

He'll be better than Fuglsang anyways. I haven't studied the parcours in detail but top 5 should be realistic. If Klöden is not riding this will be his first GT as the sole leader IINM (except for the Vuelta 2010 where he came back from injury maybe)

If I remember right Contador was on the beach vacationing the week before he raced the Giro and won it. Not that Frank will come close but its been done before.

Contador... Frank Schleck
Messi... Darren Fletcher

The Giro 2008 was his most "ugly" victory. Levi and Kloden were invisible as helpers, but he won because his TT ability.

This year Scarponi won't loss 6 minutes with Frank

lets not go that far- Bruyneel can be very clever, but to pull that kind of "hat trick" he needs a "winner"-and quite frankly- the elder Schleck ain't that kind of breed:D

PS. I do recognize Frank will provide excitement to the race & hope he gets good results

A win for Frank would be a stretch, but I predict at least a top 5 and a nice stage victory. Maybe he gives his baby brother some inspiration ahead of the Tour.

I don't know exactly why, but I have the feeling the Giro has always been Frank's GT since Bruyneel took over at RSNT...the entire Fuglsang story, all the rumours, I'm keen to say it was all made up, and it's definitely plausible considering the kind of manager we're talking about.

Just my 2 cents.
