Getting to the Morzine-Avoriaz climb

At the last minute, I'm going on a work trip which can put me in the vicinity of Geneva on the 11th of July.

That's within spitting distance of the Morzine-Avoriaz stage finish.

Anybody have any idea how to get up there from Geneva? I'm perfectly prepared to hire a car, but how close can you get in a car on the day?

how about la ramaz?

This website :
http://www.gva.ch/en/DesktopDefault.aspx/tabid-69/

gives some info about buses. Unfortunately, in the summer, you won't find many buses going to ski resorts like Avoriaz.

If you are in good shape, rent a regular bike in Geneva near the lake and ride to La Ramaz.:D
Information and reservations
Coach station Geneva:
- from Switzerland tel. 0900 320 230 (CHF 1.50/min.)
- from France tel. +4122 732 02 30
Geneva International Airport, "Accueil France" desk:
- tel. +4122 798 20 00

My guess is that you will have to rent a car if you really want to go see the race, about 85km drive , but slow going, except at 6 am. At 6 am, you can get to Morzine from Geneva in a little over 1 hr. Later on it could take you 2 hrs or much more.

I would give you a lift, except I'm not going : family events.
BTW : i can't think of a really good place to watch the racers on the Morzine-Avoriaz stretch. La Ramaz probably has better spots about 3km from the top ( just trying to remember the road, when you climb you don't think about such things)

Good luck.

Thanks for the tip - I'll go to the Ramaz instead.

Unfortunately, it's just about impossible to hire a bike in Geneva that weekend, otherwise that's precisely what I would have done.
