Take away Froomes power meter and radio and he'll be going backwards quick smart. You wanted technology, well it comes with a price. Boring racing!

All riders have power metres nowdays, Nibali's and other's of this world etc.

You make it sound like Froome's the only one using it

But don't you know it's ok to turn a blind eye if its a rider you like? :D

Not that it would make any difference to Froome anyway, he has proved he doesn't need a train to win, it would be much more relevant to Wiggins who doesn't have that ability to attack so must ride by the numbers.

His racing is just as boring as Armstrong's or Indurain's. It is the racing style that makes it boring, not the power meters. Take away the power meter and it would still be just as boring.

Actually interesting idea. They talk about removing radios. I would rather that they removed the power meters etc.

As opposed to whom in this Tour? Valverde, Evans? Kwiatkowski? Mollema? What has Contador done so far?

Quintana is exciting, fine. But singleing out Froome here is ridiculous.

Sky team cracked even with power meters. What more do you want? Power meters cant win or lose you races. Attacks like Froome and Quintana (Stage 8), Dan Martin, Fuglsang (Stage 9) wins you races...

If Froome's style is unexciting, just about everybody in this race are dull.

But otherwise yes ban power meters and team radios in races.

The stuff belongs in a kindergarten.

It is actually quite funny that the only rider who gained time on froome in the last 3k on saterdays climb do not use a power meter. (mollema)

Let’s not talk about Froome and instead talk about the actual point, banning of race radios, power meters etc.

Would it lead to more exciting racing? I believe that it would however excitement is not what this is about, it’s about progre$$, it's about opening as many new areas of revenue as possible.

I didnt find any boring this weekend.

If you think that a rider in yellow that counterattack at 130 of the finish is boring, we have a different view.

On the point of radios, say they couldn't get the team bus out from under the finish on stage 1, how would they have communicated the new finish with the riders?

As a safety issue that's a pretty important one, I know this has been hashed over and over i'm just interested in people's opinions. I can see two solutions,

1. Stop the race, explain whats happening and then continue.

2. Have radios on one channel, broadcast the issue over that in english/french/whichever, and have the riders pass around the message.

Sorry to go off topic just interested to see peoples opinions.

On topic, I don't think banning a power meter will change much, there was a stage in a race earlier in the year where Froome changed bikes and the second bike didn't have a power meter, he rode exactly the same way, constantly looking down. Also as someone already pointed out a power meter won't stop you from blowing or magically help you follow a move, just makes it easier to judge your effort.

So Froome on stage 9 was accelerating just casually behind Quintana not cause he wanted to follow the colombian, but cause his powermeter was telling him "jump on those pedals NOW!!" ?:p

Interesting but I have found this tour to be very interesting. Given that the standard tactic in bike racing is never take big chunks of energy out of your reserves that I think many fans are expecting constant explosive moves that make a huge difference. That is not bike racing. Radios are only permitted in 28 races including 3 grand tours. So at %70 of the races radios are not allowed for pro men and not allowed for any other category. It is a dead point, radios don't matter to tactics other than decrease the time it takes to relay to the riders.
Power meters are like any tool in that it gives insight to total effort and time spent at an effort level.

Get this in your head. Bike racing is boring to watch. It is paint drying and it always has been. Stage racing is about measured efforts and not wasting energy. If you really want exciting stick to 1 day races or watch juniors. They race like total idiots but they are exciting. they chase everything like little kids around a soccer ball.
If you want to win a stage race then you ride like Froome, contador or evans and if done correctly is boring.
Frankly stage 9 was about the finest day of racing I have seen at the tour for years. Not usual but about the best way to attack Sky.

Unfortunately, the Orica Bus Stage forever put the argument against race radios to bed.

Well there is a difference between race radios and no radios...and whether the riders actually have the ear piece in anyway...
