I think he´s worth this new thread, especially when considering what I´ll write here.

Fothen has been with Milram until 2010, then joined Continental team NSP for 2011. At this time, I was sure he´d be able to return to World Tour within months.

In present time, he seems to have given up all attempts to step up to the highest level in Pro cycling. He´ll turn 31 this year.

Today´s/yesterdays result in the queen stage of a 2.2 race which can be considered a highlight in his team´s race program:

A Stefan Schumacher does everything he can do to step up again, battling his way trough this 1/2.1 and 1/2.2 stuff, Fothen seemingly has given up this fight.

Great beginning of a career, solid mid career, sad last years...

Wow, didn't know the guy was still active. What a weird carreer. Great GT debut in 2005, very solid Tour in 2006, and after that? A few flashes of good form interspersed with long bouts of mediocrity.

Markus Fothen is the living proof that drugs can turn a totally limited rider into a pretty descent rider. But without the juice, he is nothing. This thread really belongs inthe clinic.
What's even more pathetic about Fothen is the fact that he was such a loudmouth, calling Ullrich a cheater and so on. What a ****ing fraud this guy is.

But as with Cobo in 2010, there is surely more than just clean/dirty here. A guy as talented as he clearly was even if dirty, should still be compiling better results clean when riding in .2 rated races for NSP than he is. Just get the feeling there's no motivation there anymore.

That´s the point...

And @Bavarianrider: You´re not totally wrong, but what would prevent him from taking something? He´s not under the biological passport, his only suspension doping-wise was in 2003 or 2004, cortisone in GP Schwarzwald, which was later deleted. So if caught, he´d risk a 2 year suspension nowadays, not life long. And normally, one doesn´t get caught.

There´s really more about him than the "clinic issue". Kind of fascinating career...

WEll he is afraid of getting caught of course. Dpoing isn't that easy these days any more, you know. At least blood doping. And it seems Fothen wa sa rider living on that.
