Got a few questions...

(Feel free to move this if it fits better somewhere else!)

Right... so I've been looking through the various classifications of the Giro and other than the sheer number of various classifications there's two things which has sparked my clue-less curiousity
1: How can you have minus points in the point classification? The last 5-or-so crossing the point-gaining place actually loses some?
2: How is the fair-play classification calculated? Noticed that only some teams had points and the more point the lower the standings...

The answers to both of your questions have to do with the race jury. At the end of every stage they issue a list of penalties for things like drafting behind/holding on to your own team car, or weeing in front of the public. The penalties involve losing points and small fines that are always in Swiss Francs because the UCI says so. The fair play classification is just the sum of all the lost points on each team.

Well, Astana lost three men today, which is actually an advantage in the Fair Play classement because they have fewer people to accrue fines on.

EVERY CLOUD, ASTANA FANS!

The minus points for today have to do with the fact that these riders finished out of the time limit, but are still allowed to ride tomorrow. UCI rules give you -25 points for this.

Now that's a bummer!

But thanks for the help! :)

Though... if the jury is all Italian isn't there a slight risk they'll be more... lenient... towards an Italian team? I'm not saying they are, just that... there's a risk...

I have a question:

What happens when BMC have less than 3 riders, how is their time in the TEAMS CLASSIFICATION measured?
