GP de Québec organiser creates innovative sprint competition

Absolutely pointless, none of the big stars will ride unless they see criterium-like appearance bonuses.
Freire has a point - it's basically a track competition on roads, the format is built much more for Hoy than Petacchi.

Hold it as a 200m ITT if you really want to know who the fastest sprinter is.

On the other hand, that would save a bunch of time and effort in stage races.

As described, it sounds like they should be inviting the track sprinters.

If I was doing it I'd lengthen out the course to 2-4km and have 5 teams of two men each contesting each round.

This would just lead to epic victories by Theo Bos
epic implies some kind of long time frame.

On the other hand, Theo is probably the only rider in the world absolutely licking his lips at this prospect, unless the money involved makes it attractive enough for teams to have the best track guys signed up just in case.
