I had £2 on Rule the World and £1 each way on Goonyella, so I'm happy. (3 out of the last 4 winners!)

Luckily I went with Betvictor who paid 6 places, I backed Ucello Conti (who finished 6th) at 33/1 so got my money back from my 3 national bets.

My best winner of the week was God's Own at 16/1 after massive favourite Vautour fell.

Won the office sweepstake. Actually had first and second but sold The Last Samurai to a colleague who missed out on the draw. Good times!

As a fellow backer of Ucello Conti, you can't imagine my pain at going with Coral...

Every time that I see this thread I think of the Buick Grand National from the '80s.

Bad times, I always shop around for best value. Not just for the grand national but for most horse racing bets. I find Ladbrokes and BetVictor are pretty good for enhanced each-way terms for most big races.

I'll remember that next time, although the odds Coral had for Rule the World were good enough that I'm pretty satisfied. Looks like he'll be retiring with just one win in a chase - the Grand National. Pretty cool!

Yeah one chase win, incredible really. Just goes to show with the ground soft after all that rain it makes it even more of a lottery than usual.
To be fair id usually have plenty of bets on Grand national day on the other races, but the soft ground meant that I didn't bother. A horse from the racing club I'm a member of won at Lingfield though, so that was pretty cool.

This sport wouldn't exist at all if people didn't bet on it. Is anyone actually interested in the sport itself?

Yes, I own shares in horses and am a member of different racing clubs. I am interested in all aspects of the sport. From the training of horses to breeding and then also after their career on the racecourse. As people who follow me on twitter can testify, I probably tweet 80% about horse racing and 20% most other sports including obviously cycling.

Granted most people will only go to the races to have a bet and a good time, but there are many fans who love the sport from top to bottom.
