I suppose it's a different way to approach a coveted top 10 finish than Andreas Kloden but I'm not convinced Cofidis have stumbled across a master tactic that other teams who'd love a top 10 have overlooked. I'd prefer to see him go for stages and/or the KotM, but presumably that gains less points than finishing 9th overall? Below is an article trying to provide context.
What is Guillaume Martin up to at the Giro?
Guillaume "yo-yo" Martin is up to his old tricks and back in the top 10 after stage 15 of the 2022 Giro d'Italia.cyclingtips.com
I don't think anyuone would call him a master tactician, but if he tried to hold on in the peloton he woud likely lose a lot of time anyway during three weeks. When his tactic works out it definitely helps him to get better results.
In the 2020 Vuelta he went stage hunting and wasn't far from winning a stage, and got the KOM jersey out of it instead. Still I see him as someone who lacks the skills to be a proper stage hunter. Getting in breask and finish in the top 10 seems to be workign well for him and the sponsors, and surely we wouldn't be talking as much about him if he just wheel sucked his way to his results.
