With so much serious racing to be done in the second half of the year, has Wiggins peaked too early, or can he continue to improve as the year progresses?

He could peak twice. How much serious racing you think he'll be doing between now and the Dauphine? Probably not that much.

So I guess I can't even vote in the poll because my answer lies somewhere in between - he can't maintain this form all year, but he hasn't peaked to early either

LOL I just wrote in the Stage 5 thread that he'll have to repeak for le Tour...should be very doable.

LOL, yeah I saw that, and I agree.

Now, mind you this is all pure speculation on my part, but I think this is the way to do it - he's probably changed some training/preparation in the offseason, and now he wants to "mini-peak" to see where he stands, and if he's gotta change something, while going for his "major peak" come July.

I guess I'm missing something, but is Dim no longer posting here on the forums? I guess he could give some inside on this.

If this is a mini peak le Tour could be Quite Interesting. Don't think I've every seen him in this kind of form. Granted he still has to prove he can carry it for 3 weeks. Just how old is he now???

are you serious? jesus christ most top riders peak a couple times per season, why should wiggins be any different?

he will just ride till romandie on good form and then rest all of may and most of june peaking again in july for the tour and august for the olympics, it really isn't rocket science

He'll peak again later in the season, don't forgot Evans won Tirreno and went on to win the tour last year.

Of course he will peak twice. I think he will start to back down his form in april, and then will build up for the tour. Think about cadel and even the schlecks. Cadel won tirreno and romandie and then backed it off to build up again for the tour. The schlecks usually peak for the ardennes and then build up for their main objective, the tour. But I do agree that his form is really quite good. Maybe more of a tour contender than I thought.

Nah, Wiggo is not peaking too soon and will be fine for the Tour. Teams don't make these race programs for their riders without giving some thought about when the riders will peak.

Now if you'd asked the same question about the Bottle....

Its normal to have 2 condition peaks in the season and some trainers even say 3 is everything goes smoothly withouth injuries and so on.

As the others said, a top-level cyclist usually peaks twice during the year. So it's none of the above.

i wont be surprised if wiggo grabs dauphine too and then shows his 3rd peak in le tour. :) actually, we have to consider he beats only 39-year-old levi and alex, whos just come back from the ban. possibly, he doesnt need a peak for it.

Of course not, the Tour is still ages away.

Win Paris-Nice, take a break(he's not riding the classics anyway) and build up for the Tour after that.

This topic came up in another thread a while ago and the resounding response was that: of course he hasn't, him and sky know what they're doing and they will be prepared for the tour no doubt about it..

this

he will go for something in Romandie or Bayern I would have thought - but that doesnt mean he has to peak.

According to him/Sky he was NOT at his peak for last years Dauphine, although he would say that, and only he will know.

Of course he can peak again but his comments about him being in the best form of his career would please his rivals imo.

no he hasnt peaked too early, contador used to win the paris nice or do well before going on to do well in the tour

I think he will let his form drop a bit after P-N like he did last year, when his form clearly had dropped already in Criterium International. Else it will be really hard to peak for the TDF.
