You clearly are not familiar with the Federation. The most important thing to understand is the federation exists to enrich Pat, Hein and others. They sell a show to an audience and do their best to make some money on the side while making every attempt to monopolize the televised sport. Rules and regulations are there to lend some legitimacy to the white collar criminal enterprise that extends all the way into the IOC.

The younger people left still friendly with the UCI are/were dopers. I wouldn't want most of them anywhere near the sport. There are some exceptions, who saw all the doping near the top and made the right decision not to start. Many of those riders just moved on.

Sometimes riders are not the best people to grow a sport. Sure, they know how to race bikes, but attracting sponsors and growing an audience is not the same skill.

I've got a great idea! The UCI should allow recumbents!

I would argue riders talking to their DS makes the racing boring. Some of us were around before radios and remember the difference.

dirty has it.
Lots of other sports are run by old guys, either that never played or who's competitive years are long gone. Cycling's difference problem is that the other major sports generate mountains of cash. The team owners, players and players unions can all feather their nests. The access to the sport by the fans is 1000's of times better through TV, press coverage and merchandise. The UCI with it's non-role plays little part in modern bike racing only the major trade teams have not figured out how to chop them out of the loop. If 25 or 30 races all agreed and the trade teams, maybe 12 or 15 agreed the UCI would be history.
The radios ,dangerous conditions, but probably primarily technology will be some of the death nails in the UCI's box. Retailers are not going to play w the UCI holding them back on the ever lighter, ever cheaper Chinese carbon juggernaut. Many pros should have been on sub 12 pound bikes this year. Something will happen that will make it even more evident that the UCI is holding back the money flood gates and then the UCI will be history. All the people lining the routes for the ToC,TDF,Veulta,Giro,TDU,all the classics, none are there because the UCI has anything to do w it and the racers, teams and promoters all know it. The UCI generates nothing only sucks the blood from the teams, sponsors, promoters to stay alive
