Hey,
First time poster here. I'll be 49 in a couple of months and just did my first Cat 5 road race last Saturday. I placed 33rd out of 41 but I finished about how I expected with all that climbing (see signature) - 4250' in 40 miles. I had a blast and can't wait until the next race.

I used to be a BMXer but I quit that about ten years ago and got real fat. I got a road bike four years ago and lost a lot of weight and started going fast and got hooked. I'm three pounds away from reaching my goal of getting into the 160s - down from 203 at the New Year.

Here's me crossing the finish line last Saturday. I did an awesome Eddy Merckx impersonation but my wife missed it.

That's pretty crappy.

Just kidding!!!!! :)

The most important thing is that you didn't finish dead stinkin' last like I did in my very first race (two flats and NO support vehicle!).

Even more importantly is that you beat at least one person (and from the photo I would say by at least 30 sec.).

Have fun!

I'd say the most important thing is that the OP enjoyed his race, and is getting something out of it (fitness and weight loss).

After having used cycling for similar purposes, I wish him the best of luck.
