Hi All,

Will be in the vicinity of this area for a week over the tour period? Fairly new to cycling so fitness wouldn be the best, currently up to 140 mile a week, for the tour staying in la grave? is there much climbing from there to bottom of alpe d'huez, thinking of cycling over for the stage rather than taking car, also there are a few with me that are novices, would they be fit for any cycling around this area, is there any flat without too many hills in the valleys? sorry for such a stupid question. also will i take my own bike or will we hire and if so can u reccommend places in either of these 2 places? Staying in la grave for 4 nights and bourg for 3. Any help appreciated. I myself hopefully to intend to do alpe d'huez myself but i dont want to leave rest of the gang out so if there are other not so strenuous cycle routes there it would be great. thanks

it's all down hill from la grave to bourg d'oisans. once you hit the romanche valley it's all flat, and then it starts a gradual descent you can take all the way down to grenoble. but coming back you will have a gradual long climb up to the flat part of the valley, but there's not a lot of flat, just about 8 km or so.

i've only rented bikes at rocky sport at alpe d'huez, but i know there are places in bourg d'oisans. good luck and have fun!

If you want to hire a road bike anywhere near the tour route, you're probably too late in my experience. They book out pretty early.

I'd be getting a bike case for taking your own bike organized right now if you don't already have one.

Have fun!

i have rented road bikes at alpe d'huez during the tour (rocky sport & olivier sport). not sure about bourg d'oisans though.
