This tweet was reported in the news:

Joe Papp (ex-pro): Stapleton’s failure to secure backing for a 2012 team demands your scrutiny and skepticism. All is not what it seems in this sport.

I can not be that HTC Highroad went the way of the Clinic, and they surely could not be faulted for not winning!!!!!

Ok - so what sponsors say they want is wins, and media exposure. Right? Highroad delivered, in spades. And, their whole bit was they did it clean. That was their moral, their raison d'etre! So Joe can't be referring to clinic matters I think.

And, I have to add that I am mystified why such a winning team can't get a sponsor! I will say that we seem to have too many teams at the moment, if anything, so I am not surprised that we have some fallout from that - but the winningest team in the peloton?

So what's up with this? And what could Joe be referring to? And, if Joe reads this, since he occasionally browses in here, maybe Joe can tell us what he meant? I'm mystified.

Saw this as well. My guess is that Joe makes these cryptic comments to give the impression he is still a pro cycling insider, keep his name in circulation, maintain whatever shred of cred he's got left.

Please prove me wrong, but I'm guessing Papp doesn't know $h!t about this one and is just trying to stir the pot.
