I'm so glad that George respects the basic design of the national champions jersey. Those kits that Hamilton and Liepheimer wore were disgusting and barely recognizable from the jersey they were awarded for being the US Champion.

Yes, it's much sponsor based. The sponsors don't want to lose their colors and design in the jersey and they screw it. Like the rock racing star and stripes and the Italian Jersey from katusha.
I'm against it, the tradional jerseys looks much better.

Best US Champ kits of recent memory that I actually liked was 'Fast' Freddie's when he won back to back titles in 2000 with Mapei, then '01 with Domo.

The Rock Racing kit was the most disgusting to me. Made me want to vomit. You couldn't pick out Hamilton if you wanted to.

I wish USA Cycling had the backbone of the Italian Fed. Pozzato's jersey was a joke too and it was good to see them put their foot down and make him change it to a traditional design.

Let's face it. The American flag sucks when it comes to making jersey designs. Everything comes out looking like a ridiculous Captain America get up. The U.S. should pick a national color and make their sport kits almost entirely that color with a small American insignia somewhere on it.

Can't we just invade some other country and take their flag?

You're right about the flag thing. This is what Australia does. There is absolutely no green or gold on the Aussie flag, yet that is our national colours. Maybe something like a horizontal red stripe, white stripe and blue stripe with stars would look OK?

You're bang on about the Cap'n America thing. But Hincapie's version of Cap'n America is far better than Hamilton's version of... whatever that was.

Cap'n America is surely better than Brazil National Champion Jersey, or even like british champion... it's so boring. plain white with 2 or 3 stripes in the national colors.

Seems that might upset the French a little. Short of the stars, what you describe is their nat jersey if I'm not mistaken.

I like the idea of a nat color and a small flag/crest akin to the Australian kit...even something like the recent USA soccer kit perhaps.

Personally, I think it looks cool. At least there is something other than bands of colors, like 95% of the European jerseys. OK, the Belgian jersey always looks classic in my opinion. Of course, my fashion sense isn't as keen as others. I do like Garmin's argyle.

The Rock Racing version (Bahati wore the same version for his US Crit Championship) didn't even look like a National Champion jersey. You could barely tell with Disco and Astana. Hopefully George's kit next year at BMC will look like this one.

I can't wait to see the stars and stripes on the top step at the Roubaix Velodrome!

Agree, the USA kit looks special, I love the stars and stripes designs.
The Belgian one has that retro-feel to it because of the colors of the flag.
Russia, France, Holland and Luxembourg look too much alike.
Well, Now with Katusha the Russian one looks awesome. But normally it's just the 3 colors.

Now Now Boys! My Great great great great aunt designed our flag and I think she did a pretty damn good job. Stripes stars and all.

I've always liked this jersey...

I so miss that jersey. When the US team dropped those jerseys in the early '90s I was not happy. None of the national team jerseys since have even come close. Why they added black a few years ago was beyond me.

National team jerseys are a different story from national champ kit. I've always thought they were much better, mainly due to teams like the Dutch and Italians wearing national colors. I've always been a fan of the Orange and Azure. They way the Dutch now wear mostly orange with the tri-color flag peeking through in places is great.

Normally I'm not such a fashionista, but it's the most visibly thing in cycling.
