One of the links, the second I think, says that other cyclists have identified this toolbag as doing the same thing to them.

pretty ugly. things around here have been lately. i hope it is only because of the really hot weather and it stops. i like to let people go around when it is safe to do so. no shortage of jerks in the world. that guy probably yells at the chair when gets home.

Maybe he didn't he want to cross the double lines to get around the cyclists? Not sure what the law is there on that one, in my state you can't cross double lines to get around a cyclist? Most people would probably do it anyway but if you were a stickler for the rules it would be a bit frustrating.

Edit: Just noticed the second video says it's legal to cross the yellow line.

In most of the US it is never legal to cross a double yellow. But the van driver was wigging out. Something was wrong there. Straight road, clear, shouldn't have been double yellow for that matter. Laws do vary from state to state, but I'm pretty sure most US drivers would say crossing a double yellow is illegal. But if nobody is there, and sight distance is A-OK, what's the big deal? The van driver was non compos mentis. I don't think any other conclusion is possible.

Although, I do have a fantasy: in a Spike-like moment, one of the cyclists pulls a .45 from out of his jersey pocket, and drills the van radiator and engine, leaving the car as a heap of steaming junk!

In France it is illegal to cross a solid line, even to pass a cyclist. This is virtually never respected - which is a good thing. Imagine the road rage building up in drivers that have to wait for a break in the solid line to pass!

I have heard that there is an initiative to allow crossing the solid line to pass cyclists, which would be an intelligent transformation of the law to correspond to the reality with no negative consequences that I can see.
