Oh how I wished those giving out these ludicrous honours would before giving them out read these threads before they did.
They then might question whether those they were giving them to were so deserving and had achieved their victories without chemical assistance.
Or am I being too cynical !.

good point.
However, and I'm not saying the Netherlands on the whole are any bit better than the brits, that Dutch royal distinction for medalists is merely protocol.
There is no UK protocol that stipulates that Mo, Dave and Brad be knighted.
In fact, Mo, Dave and Brad being knighted is a historically odd decision. Excelling athletes didn't use to get knighted so quickly back in the 60s/70s/80s. It's clearly a recent trend.

Before he got knighted, Dave had hired a doc who blooddoped young men.
Before he got knighted, Mo had worked with a coach who used his son as a PED guinea pig.

There are no historical precedents for that. It's weird. It''s wrong. It's hilarious. It's tragic. All in one.

That said, my comment was more a reflection on the absurdity of the whole of UK Sports at present and how it is reminiscent of what we saw unfolding in Spain in the late 90s and 00s.
Golden era, doping docs, drug rings, a fraudulent ADA, crazy denials, royal interference, etc..

Sportspeople have been knighted while still playing since 1990 and Sir Richard Hadlee. That would be 26 years ago.

Also what exact Royal Interference in sport are you on about?

Maybe Princess Anne was installing motors in Sir Brad's bike?

You're possibly even more insane than benotti, blackcat and freddy got fingered. And that's so much concentrated insanity you'd knock a hole in the space-time continuum.

Cynical? Delusional more like. A more over-inflated sense of the worth of this board to people in the real world is hard to imagine. C'mon, try and be a little bit reasonable, just a smidgen, it's New Year, make an effort. What are TPTB gonna get by consulting the collective wisdom of the Clinic? That everybody dopes and no one deserves a gong. No one. No one's clean, no one plays fair, no one deserves applause. The sport - all sport - is rotten to the core. Or do you imagine TPTB would take some other message from consulting the exeperts herabouts?

Honours per se are a load of crock - I value more the around 25% of people who decline honours - They have more credibility.

The British go to ridiculous lengths in awarding honors to British athletes - In saying that, Sniper offers a flawed argument in decrying some knighthoods given to British Athletes - There will be other ' honoured people ' who will have a checkered history if we delve into thie past.

It is very important to give the British Honours System the respect it deserves. Which is why I always think of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOOTKA0aGI0

Make them all knights and dames, who gives a toss? In fact, it might be a good thing, as once these temporarily minted heroes eventually bring great embarrassment to an institution which takes itself so seriously and whose very foundation is one of elitist arrogance, maybe the shenanigans in professional sport might come under closer scrutiny in the future.

On the other hand, this is the system that gave you the words, "Arise, Sir James Savile". So always remember that it is inherently meaningless.

Sport is absolutely full of drug cheats so I think sports people should not be considered.

You miss the very point - A number of recipients from other walks of life have cheated in their working lives and heaven forbid in their private lives -Don't be selective and choose only sports stars as cheats.

Hitch, it's from Wiggins's book. More context to it.

Wiggins is the biggest doosh cycling has seen in a very, very long time. The guy defines the term fraud. The fact that he gained knighthood is a testament to how worthless that title really is.

The brits considered knighthood for Syria's Assad, if that tells you anything. Other famous winners are Mugabe, Mussolini, and Ceausescu.
A guy like Mo being knighted is just ssdd.
