leaving his GC leader isolated with three astana riders at the base of alpe d'huez isn't going to make his highlight reel...

Too true. Instead of brown-nosing LA through the press, Horner should of stayed with his team GC leader. That´s what LA expects at the Tour.

Obvious??? Proximity is not causality.

What was obvious to me was that very few riders were capable of hanging on when Contador decided to animate the race. That two Yanks shucked off the back, hooked up to finish together is by no means incriminating. Further, that they finished just 1:30 down is hardly indicitative that either were really in any trouble.

If Horner fell back to, say another Yank as far back as Menchov - and then rode together - then yes, you might have a point
I agree with Nearly. Horner made a clear sign on his back to follow his wheel. It was obvious.

The pressure was on hog to provide Bertie with guys Bertie was comfortable with. The decision was charitable, but might have cost the team another podium spot.

Selective amnesia much? Bruyneel was torn between satisfying the desires of both Contador and Armstrong and thus left Horner (Armstrong) and Noval (Contador) off of the Tour squad to avoid conflict. It could be argued that Noval was the more likely choice with him having worked the Tour for Bruyneel in the past.
