Thought Hoy may have challenged the Australian domination of the sprint.

Disappointed about this but it is up to Hoy.
The Commonwealth games is the one and only chance he gets to ride for his own country ,rather than the conglomeration that makes up team GB.However if his goal is the Olympics then so be it.I know he says he still hopes to compete for Scotland in Glasgow at the next games but thats a big ask.

Blame the calendar, the new European Championships (well, new in the fact they aren't U23 only anymore) count towards Olympic qualification whereas the commonwealths don't.

A smart choice, but one he shouldn't have had to make.

Completely agree, why can't the powers that be get their heads together and avoid this.
We aren't going to get a lot of golds at the games and it would have done wonders in Scotland with the new track being built in Glasgow if Hoy was competing.

"Now that Hoy is out, any predictions?"

Should be a great sprint, even without Sir Chris. There's a lot of good sprinters, all capable of 10.3 or better

England? - M Crampton, J Kenny
Australia - S Perkins, D Ellis, J Niblett, S Sunderland
New Zealand - E Dawkins, S Webster, E Mitchell
Malaysia - A Awang, J Ng

You do know that track HAS to be built. Glasgow are hosting the 2014 Commonwealth games. The drome is to be named the "Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome".

Don't worry about your track, it is being built regardless of Hoy's participation in Delhi.

Yes I know the track has to be built I'm from Glasgow. It would just have been good for publicity and getting the track off to a good start if Hoy had won gold for Scotland.

I think the aussies will pretty much destroy the commonwealth games medal table. And then we will have to listen to them saying how important the commonwealth games are.

As a local comedian said during the last C/wealth games:
"People wh olike seeing us do well at teh Commonwealth Games are the same sort of people who like beating their own kids at sports."
There was apparently some criticism, even here in Aus, about how strong the Australian team for the games was going to be, but it was pointed out that the sport's funding is decided by politicians and politicians care more for results at events like the C/wealth games and Olympics than "minor" (ie unpublicised by the mainstream) events like the World Cup or even the world titles.

Looks like the finals are scheduled for approx. 11:30 am onwards most days. A couple of days have qualifying/heats scheduled for evening sessions. Anyone trying for the keirin/sprint double will have three keirin rides midday, an hours break, followed by sprint qualifying then another round.

Meh... I don't know anyone who gives a toss about the CWG's. I've seen a few ad's trying to talk up the rivalry between us and the Pom's, but it's a long bow to strecth to say that the CWG's are important.
If they weren't going to be a complete farce (in the way they will be run) and remove the prospect of of a bunch of athlete's being blown up then I doubt they'd be getting half the media that they have been.
