Hello all,
I am not a cyclist but a wife whose husband is an avid cyclist. He is going to be in the Leadville race again this year. Last week he was riding, hit a pothole and went over his handle bars receiving a grade III should separation that has the noticable knot. He is stationed at Tyndall AFB in Florida and they are unable to get him into Ortho for 4 weeks. As much of you probably are, he is lost without riding everyday. Im currently in Kentucky and feel as if my hands are tied. I am massage therapist but Im not trained in sports massage.
Can anyone here who has had this injury tell me if surgery would help for complete healing as I have read that surgery is not really an option anymore until you get to grade 4 injury. I do know that the longer you do not use a part of your body it will get stiff and lose ROM. I am looking for any advice on physical therapy that he could start at home. He also has his trainer set up at home but Im concerned about him staying inside and not staying active.
Up for any advice, tips and thoughts on what he can do in the meantime, waiting to see the ortho and get into physical therapy. I am going to schedule a sports massage for him in a couple of weeks with a therapist in Florida.
Thanks so much!
