If you were allround, what would your focus be?

  • I'd focus my entire season around the Tour of California obviously

If I strictly wanted a win. Tour of California

Pin it in the red line while the Tour contenders build their base

PR for me, along with the likes of RvV, then the ardiennes/MSR/etc...
Definately a tilt at the Giro, as I've been losing interest in the Tour for years now. Although, taking a MTF like l'Alpe Huez, Ventoux, Tourmalet would be worthwhile

Tour de France of course. 1 race a year.
I'll treat my bank account as my palmares.

I'd try to win Vlaanderen in the last years of my career.

I voted for mass sprinter. As a sprinter I could act really cool, wear strange zebra outfits and be a playboy. People would be okay with it and say "well that's what sprinters are like". Also, no offence meant, sprinting is less hard then winning GT's. I would very much like to give up before the Zoncolan or whatever ridiculous mountaintop they got planned.

There's a grey cloud attached to that silver lining though - for the most part a sprinter really has to keep close to top race form for more of the year. The Andy Schleck career path isn't open to a Cavendish or Farrar. They have to rack up lots of wins in a season and they probably still make less money. You can't take as much of a season off and you can't ride most of your races as preparation in quite the same way.

Obviously there are non-sprinters who maintain a high level of form for a long part of the season, but it isn't compulsory for a GT guy. I don't think it would go down very well if Cavendish were to tell Columbia that he wasn't going to bother his **** racing to win for most of the season.

That's the central point really. Cyclists are professionals. The money dictates that you make the Tour your focus if you have a reasonable expectation of a top 10 place, unless you are an Italian or unless you are supremely gifted at something else. It wouldn't make financial sense for Cancellara to swap the classics and time trials for a Tour top 10, but how many other riders that really apply to?

tour of california just like rogers
a guy like him is never gonna finish top 5 in a GT so why not go for a one week race where the best guys arent peaking

If I proved tough enough, I'd do the stones.

I'm certainly not mentally tough enough to win a GT, and I think I'd be unable to stay at the required level for 21 days, regardless of talent. My vote for the stones is in recognition of this.

Having said that, here is my hierarchy for races I'd like to win:

1 - Le Tour (But who wouldn't, if they could?)
2 - Paris-Roubaix
3 - Lombardia
4 - Worlds RR
5 – De Ronde
6 – Milano-San Remo
