    Thanks!

Irony of ironies-moose almost runs me over!

No joke. Commuting to work on Friday, here I am just riding along through the neighborhood that is the most common route for cyclists. People out in their yards, etc.

I look up and see this huge animal trotting towards me on the other side of the street, with another confused cyclists behind him.

I think, hey someone's horse got loose, but it gets closer and WTF! It's a moose!

It gives me a head fake and I nearly self-butter my chamois with the brown stuff. I've run into moose on the MTB trail. You do NOT mess with moose.

Luckily it decides I'm not worth charging and it goes into a home's yard. I wish I had taken better pics (I'll post some), but honestly, I was not all that excited about getting close.

Oh, yeah, I can relate. Moose are huge critters. A female can weigh in at close to half a ton, as I recall, and a male twice that.

I was solo wilderness camping, one spring, many years ago, when a young calf moose spotted me - and I was obviously the 1st human he had ever seen. He started trotting right over to check me out. I started heading in the other direction; which was a good thing, because it wasn't but a few seconds later that momma noticed what was going on. And she started heading towards me at good speed. I did the miserable best I could do to match her speed, as I left the scene. Fortunately, she decided my poor attempt was good enough, and gave up the race!

Did I get her number? No. Didn't have a nice rack. Plus, I'm a married moose already.

UTAH??? A moose in Utah??? Huh? I didn't think there were any that far south!

I bet Mrs. Moose was glad the self-buttering chamois didn't happen.

Hey, better now than in the fall. During the rut there could be some unfortunate 'moose on moose' action. A bad way to go.

Many moons ago in 89 while on a training ride alone in New Hampshire, where I was attending university at the time, I ran across a moose roadside. He was no more than a few meters away and I was on a climb, so the speed was reduced. I thought, ok this mother f-ker better stay put as I pass buy or I'm surely done for. In fact I'm still here to tell about it so he indeed remained immobile, except for a turn of the head just to incite me to ride faster up the climb. Needless to say I think I broke a speed record that day on a 12% gradient. Unfortunately nobody was there to clock me. :D

The big boy looked rather like this:

Even though it was many moons ago you don't forget such an image.
