..waiting to have some idea how large the wave might be here in Hawaii...certainly nothing like that seen in northern Honshu.

x-wife and daughter

I was on this site late and want to thank Alpe for the Heads up. I did not have my television on. My X-wife and daughter live in Japan and spent a good hour trying to call. Finally got through and all was well with them. Some major damage and something they are prepared for but nothing they have really ever seen in terms of Tsunami.

Tsunami arrival time is estimated to be 0300HST, which is 0800 EST.
We are supposed to get some idea of the wave's size when it reaches Midway and Wake within the hour.

thank you! i am depending on all of you as my father isn't exactly email king...

i only heard that they were evacuating because my brother called them after i sent a text to his phone (thank god he stays up late!).

ETA: LOL! he actually sent me an e! almost verbatim:
Tsunami is expected at 0300. We will have a better idea of the magnitude of the wave when it hits Midway Is. at 0300.
aloha

that is worrisome in itself... my dad almost never does that.

to thirteen: i hope all of your family are ok.
thank you! they are (though i admit i'll feel better after it's all over).

being from southern california, i hate earthquakes passionately. but, truly, tsunamis (of which i've never been affected by) scare me more than anything. the videos Susan linked showed how stunningly powerful they are. it is frightening when you see something that surpasses your worst nightmares

yes, and they are WARNINGS, not merely watches!

there have been fears about the SuperMoon on the 19th. was this an early strike or is there worse to come?

Police on the Oregon Coast are going door to door waking people and getting them out.

Having said that, the last time there was a large tsunami warning here it petered out and turned out to be nothing more than a large wave. So let's hope that's the case here.
