Is there any connection with the new Australian domestic team and GreenEDGE?
There is no real answer to that question as yet.
The Jayco-AIS U23 Continental Team would be the official feeder Team to Green Edge, this completely new Team, Elipce Pro Cycling (Jayco-2xU) for at least 2011 is not even a Continental Team. It is an Australian National Road Series (NRS) Team.
This new Jayco-2xU Team has come about through the demise of the Virgin Blue NRS Team that was a feeder Team to the Continental Team FlyV. With the failure of the Pegasus Pro Team bid, both the Virgin Blue Men’s NRS Team and Women’s team were casualties of that failed bid.
Pat Jonker who was the DS of the now defunct Virgin Blue Team put together sponsors and pulled together a competitive team in a very short amount of time to put a Team on the road in 2011. I would think that in 2012 the Jayco-2xU Team will look for Continental status and would act as a feeder to Green Edge like any Australian Continental Team will. There may be a formal link by then as when you think about it Green Edge would benefit from having an all age Continental Team developing riders who may not fit the AIS system or be too old for the AIS U23 program. So to me it makes sense that Green Edge will have a formal arrangement with another feeder team other that the Jayco-AIS U23 Team, having Jayco support for the new Team does point to that outcome.
Pat Jonker has shown to be a great DS and Coach so Jayco-2xU may in time act as a Green Edge development Team for Support Staff as well as riders, at least there will be another strong team on the domestic circuit in 2011, well done to Pat and his team.
