Jtek shiftmate straight?

Jtek engineering sells a variety of adapters under the "shiftmate" and "shiftmate straight" which lets you mix and match shifters and derailleurs from different manufacturers. This includes one that lets you use a SRAM rear derailleur with Shimano 10-speed road shifters.

It appears from the photos that they use a couple of pulleys of different sizes to adjust the amount of cable pull from each derailleur click.

If it works as advertised I should be able to use an Apex long-cage RD without having to fork out for SRAM shifters.

Has anybody given one of these a try?

I wouldn't use such a setup routinely, but if it works acceptably well for the two times a year I need to be able to shift a 32-tooth rear it would be nice.

or you could just use a shimano derailleur... you have to use an older 9 speed rd (deore, lx, xt, xtr) with the newer 10 speed shifters.

Hmmm. I tried this with a Deore LX and the RD somehow ended up in the spokes and I ended up in the dirt (see previous forum post).

If ya got shimano shifters, just get a shimano(Like Deore) long cage MTB 9s rear derailleur. far better than anything sram. About $50, works well.

Wasn't the derailleur, why it ended up in the spokes. As was mentioned, der hanger, limit screws, chain length, somethin.

I used this for a while to run 9 speed campa with a 9 speed shimano wheel. It worked but was fiddly to install.

If I recall right you loop the cable twice around a pulley, which has 2 tracks which are a different circumference. The cable crosses from on side to the other at a bridge. The direction you lace the pulley changes the combination of shifter/cog set you can use.

The shiftmate works as advertised. I have them on most of my road bikes because I use Campy shifters with Sram drivetrain (except Campy front der.). The first time installing is the toughest, but really not that bad. Piece of cake from there on after.

I use every millimeter of cable because it takes a little extra to wrap around the pulley.

Make sure and double check to get the correct pulley, and make sure you route it properly.
