I was saddened to read about Juan Mauricio Soler's serious head injury during this year's Tour de Swiss and I've been praying and waiting in hope for more updates on his recovery.
Some time ago I was descending South Mountain, Phoenix, at high speed when getting caught out on a hairpin bend, my front wheel locked on the gravel road edge and I was catapulted head first onto the road. Fortunately, I'd been encouraged to buy a helmet a few days earlier by the guys who organized a group ride and their advice probably saved my life.
A few weeks later I returned home, I'd stopped going to church and I got into drugs. One night I hallucinated and dived out out of a first floor window dropping 15 feet onto concrete, landing on my head. When I came out of the coma a couple of days later the surgeon couldn't believe that I could still function normally. He'd removed a blood clot the size of a grapefruit from my brain, the 12 inch scar on my head and the look of amazement on the surgeon's face made me realize how fortunate I'd been and how merciful Jesus is. My mother said she saw angels in the hospital ward where I lay unconscious after the surgery.
Let's continue to pray for Juan Mauricio's recovery, his family and for the safety of all the riders who risk their lives, bringing spectacular backdrops and the beauty of creation into our homes. Please feel free to add your own prayers, thoughts and experiences. Best wishes to all, David
