Just bruises

In the news you could read in the text over Basso: "The latter was also cleared of fractures, having a bruised collarbone."

I mean it's great he just has bruises, but in the pro peleton there seems to be the idea that a fall without a broken bone doesn't seem to be as serios as a fall with a broken bone.

I just know by personal expierence that the falls without fractures often leave you with some kind of damaged cartilige or results in posttraumatic ganglions of the wrist etc.

So to me all this articles about the pro's falling and not breaking any bone apearing here on the news site are pure hypocrisy.

You may think it's pure hypocrisy, but the point is that with a broken bone the riders can't continue and with bruises the riders usually ride on.

You don't get my point. The main problem is hardly a broken bone. The main problem in fractures arises from soft tissue damage. And that my as well lead to long term problems.

Just to make my point clear. i once crashed on my bum. I thought nothing but bruises, some blue spots for 3 weeks. I ended up with a cleft to my hip cartilige causing chronic inflammation and pain even 2 years later. So it's not as simple as everything is ok luckily no bone broken as the article here on CN often suggest.

And no, fractures are not the end of the world just think of Cadel Evans in the Tour de France with his broken ellbow, Tyler Hamilton with the broken clavicula.

I got your point, but that's the way the press sees it. Ofcourse a crash wihtout any broken bones can give more problems then a broken collarbone. The point in this last article about Basso was that he only has bruises and continues to race.
