In case your spam mail deleted this before you got it, enjoy. It came the day after I wrote my check to the American Cancer Society. (Note: The small 's' on my name came in the original email. Good PR, bad editing.)
"Dear shawn,
I’ve seen Lance Armstrong have moving, emotionally powerful conversations with cancer survivors. But, I’ve never seen anything quite like this.
I just returned from Iraq and Afghanistan where Lance joined Robin Williams and others on a USO holiday tour to support the troops. In Baghdad, Lance received an unexpected invitation to talk with General Art Bartell and share their experiences with cancer.
The General shared his own personal story, having been diagnosed with a rare cancer several years ago. And he talked about the support he received from LIVESTRONG and what Lance’s story meant to him during his treatment.
As the conversation unfolded, I was struck by how powerful it was to watch two incredibly tough cancer survivors connect with one another and talk openly about difficult times they faced battling cancer.
Every cancer survivor deserves that same opportunity to get help, connect with a larger community of support and share the courage that keeps each of us fighting.
It makes me more determined than ever to make sure that our 28 Can’t Wait year-end campaign is a success.
And it’s why I want to ask you to please make a donation of $10 or more today and help strengthen our fight against cancer.
