Resurecting this thread for a bit of Internet activism.

Ted has Levi's talk posted with a handy link to rate the talk.

It seems to me the TED organization needs to be reminded he's a fraud who stole from clean athletes and therefore should take the video down.

Link to the "talk."

I prefer the Xtranormal talks that Really Fake Frankie did on Levi, and Michelob, and Lance.

"stfu Levi!"

Great opinion blog on Levi

The piece is called "Grand Fondos and Dopers" and I totally agree with its sentiment; it's sickening how Levi is idolized by the 7,000 participants. What next the Marion Jones 10K Run?

So Talansky is learning from Levi. Seems legit.

Levi Leipheimer

Joe, thank you as well for the thoughtful and respectable response. I have to be fair and tell you that Pete was doing specific training on those Tahoe climbs while I was just trying to get to the top as fast as I could. Pete needed a training partner and I was more than happy to keep him company. Riding with Pete and Andrew Talansky keeps me young and I want them to learn from my experience as well as my mistakes. But make no mistake, they are at the highest level of the sport, by no means would I blow them away. And lastly, I agree with you that the clean can win today.

Yeah, I don't know guys. There aren't a lot of people who can keep up with a pro cyclist, and if you're training in NorCal, Levi is a guy you can train with. I don't think riding with him means anything one way or another.

I find it interesting that the new generation, after defending the old generation via "lack of evidence" claims, has no peers to train with. I obviously would not know the area nor its residents, but I am guessing there are other cyclists around who can match Talansky on a day of training. I struggle to accept Levi is the only rider there who can match him.

When Stetina trained with Levi, Levi left hm behind on the climb as Stetina did efforts. So matching the rider is probably not even necessary.

Note: this should not be read as a "you can't train with XYZ" post either. It's just interesting who he chooses to train with. And does make me curious what he is learning. Levi got popped in 1996 for ephedrine but not once after that.

Well it may be as simple as the pool of pro or former pro riders in Califonia is relatively small. I'm not saying there isn't anyone else to train with, I'm just saying it doesn't surprise me that they like riding with other pros or ex pros.

I just don't think there's any real reason why they would treat Levi like a leper. Riding with him isn't going to make you a doper. I'm sure there are guys who were on Levi's teams who were clean and trained with him.

I'm also not saying I think Talansky is clean, I just don't think this speaks to it either way.

Agreed. And if he was going to learn anything dodgy, he could have learnt it from half a dozen guys on the team he races with...

how about this.

Gerro rode with Armstrong and Levi two years back in Denver.

Levi trains with Talansky

Talansky derides Gerro's handling skillz

Talansky defends Prance

seems legit

It turns out Levi "won" the race in question where he drops current pros names to elevate his social status. Then he has the nerve to try to rewrite it.

The people I talked to after the Crusher weren't opposed to my presence because today isn't about winning and losing, it's about sharing a great experience on the bike, which is what sets this event apart from traditional racing.

What a liar.

It seems like Strava is heavily moderating comments in favor of Levi.

Levi, the master of sucking wheel, was showing him the finer nuances of riding without accelerating.

Truthfully, don't read too much into whom they train with on short basis.

I love this thread. the fact that JP started it is almost an embarrassment of riches.
Hey, what's the number of the post where some fellow comments that LL was getting sacks from--gasp--that Italian pr*ck?
No one want's to touch that one, apparently.

Honestly, pretty great. Massive turnout.

Yep, sad but true - his Fondo is held an hour from my stomping grounds. I ride with a few different clubs, all of which sent most of their members to go ride it. I skipped it of course, told the clubs why, and asked them why they wanted to ride in an event held by an unrepentant doper who has profited and made his career at the expense of clean riders. The vast majority honestly had no idea of his doping and were a bit shocked to learn of it - I guess most club riders don't follow pro cycling all that closely much less the dark underbelly of the sport. Sadly the few who did know about his positives "didn't care." Oh well.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, all my old racing team-mates skipped the Fondo, but this was equally to do with not supporting a doper as it was to avoid doing a ride with 1,000 unknown squirelly riders.
