Hi,

Some foto&video for Liquigas fans ;-)

Nine Liquigas-Canondale riders: Ivan Basso, Vincenzo Nibali, Valerio Agnoli, Eros Capecchi,
Damiano Caruso, Jacopo Guarnieri, Maciej Paterski, Simone Ponzi and Sylwester Szmyd
with sport director Paolo Slongo were training at high altitude camp (sleeping 2200 meters above sea level)
on vulcan Teide on Tenerife for last 2 weeks.

Someone please tell me why they and other teams go all the way to Tenerife?
Why not various mild southern locations somewhere nearer the EU?

I think this is the only place near EU where in January/February you've got sun, temperatures above 20C and desent mountain (ascent 2300m). And all of this without snow etc. And you can sleep above 2000m ie you can do LHTL-H training (Live High Train Low-High).

Having spent nearly a month riding in the Canary Islands in January I can tell you that the weather is usually very good (70F), much better than anywhere in Europe including southern Spain and Majorca.

Awesome pictures. Perhaps those 9 riders minus Basso will be doing the giro? Or maybe it was just for their climbers minus Koren

Thank you.
Well..., Guarnieri and Paterski are not climbers, are they?
But you are right. For sure you will see most of them on Giro (minus Basso)

No, they're not. I agree that we will probably see most of those riders at the Giro though. I think you could probably exclude Capecchi as well, however, as he seems to be doing the same program as Basso which probably includes skipping the Giro and doing the Tour.

Im guessing both you and the augustyna photographer are Polish. Which leads me to wonder what makes Liquigas kind of popular amongst Poles.

I saw several Liquigas jerseys in Poland, especially during the TDP stage 1, including a model like blonde standing there wearing nothing but a short skirt and a liquigas shirt.

Sure they have Szmyd but hes no superstar, and Miche-Silver Cross didnt get any fans for having Niemiec.

Maciej Paterski can defiantly grind it uphill.

He is a former mountain-biker, who only directed his focus towards the road 4 years ago. He is tall and lanky (187cm - 69kg).

I once read he was compared to Zanon Jaskula in the Polish media, but Sylwester Szmyd kinda shot that comparison down after last year’s Vuelta. Szmyd stated that he (Maciej Paterski) instead where ideally suited for lumpy classics ala Liege-Bastogne-Liege and Amstel Gold Race, I tend to agree with him.

He was kinda injury plagued last season. He sat out for 2 months with a knee injury after Tour of Qatar, only to come back and break his collarbone in April. Still despite the setbacks he managed to have a pretty decent debut season in my opinion.

In 2009 (As an U-23er) he finished 9th on the super tough ascent up Monte-Grappa. I saw footage and he was in the favorite group with guys like Alberto Contoli, Fabio Aru, Angelo Pagani, Daniele Ratto and Diego Zanco for an awfully long time. You defiantly don’t do that if you can’t climb well above average.

Guarnieri obviously not. But Paterski is no slouch!

You are right. We are Polish and more: we are the same person ;-)
Why Liquigas? Don't know. Maybe because there are Szmyd, Bodnar and Paterski so its "the most Polish Protour team".
Why did I pics of Liquigas? Simple. I met Liquigas climbing uphill, didn't manage to go as fast as they
so decided to do fotos of those bikers instead of windsurfers or kitesurfersand other water animals ;-)

But yes, its diffrent from other ones. All I know is Maciej Paterski was riding this bike.
Maybe its just old model, spare one or brand new cosmic high tech bike ;-)
