DQ or DNF, you still have to get an exemption

It's easy to get, though. Just don't very obviously quit because you felt like it

Yes, and Cav very obviously quit despite him not wanting to.

I'm not sure why you say obviously quit considering he finished the stage despite knowing for a long ways he was not going to make it unlike other sprinters who quit during the stage. That in my opinion, shows dedication to the race and not a sign of willingly quitting. Just because he did not have the strength to finish in the time limit does not mean he obviously quit.

I meant the opposite. That he very obviously did not want to quit but just couldn't get through it quickly enough. Not the best worded post I have completed, though.

Ackermann really is on fire this year, just like the whole Bora sprinting department.

Yes and they are clearly trying to put together a sprint support team to rival Quickstep. Their main problem is that they are being too successful to hold on to all three sprinters. Bennett is too fast to be willing to play second fiddle forever. Ackermann is too fast to be happy as number three. But they have all three next year anyway I believe, so expect them to be even stronger in the sprints.

After that, unless Sagan decides to take up bmx or something, Bennett would seem certain to move and Ackermann might also if he has established himself as a Tour stage / MSR hopeful. The thing is though that once you have the sprinter delivery machinery finely tuned you can replace even the fastest sprinters as QS demonstrate repeatedly,
