I was a big University of Houston fan, and watching the finals in 1983 and seeing that dunk still sticks in my mind like it was yesterday.

Though I was a big fan and was heartbroken, I never "disliked" NC State, especially the guy that made the dunk. From Valvano to Charles, I was happy for them in their underdog role. That team seems snakebitten since then, with 4 of members of that team/staff dying. It's a sad day when a really good guy that will go down in the history of sport loses his life so young.

That was one of the best NCAA finals ever. I was sure there was no way Phi Slamma Jamma could lose.

Yeah, what an unlikely hero he was. He looked as suprised as everyone in the arena when he put that ball in at the buzzer.
Houston was an incredible team - from top to bottom. Drexler, Olajuwon, etc...
NC State was very solid with awesome role players and a great coach - the late great Coach Jimmy Valvano.
Indeed, I concur that that 83 championship was an all-time great game with a fantastic finish...
