Sunday, there will be hold the classic of Gent-Wevelgem which used to be hold between the Ronde and Roubaix but has its new place in the calendar since last season.
It features the same number of hills it did last year, however the course is about ten km shorter than in the previous edition.

Unfortunately, I couldn't find a map for the course, but here is at least a startlist, map will be added:

Your welcome to discuss favourites and everything around the race of Gent-Wevelgem here =).

.

If they took the 10km from the distance between the last climb and the finish, then it would be exciting! But they did not.

I'm not sure about Farrar. G-W doesn't end in a mass sprint as often as people seem to think, in the past 10 years there's only been one REALLY BIG sprint (2008, when Freire won from a group of 70) and two small sprints (Hushovd from a group of 30 in '06 and Boonen from a group of 20 in '04). Farrar isn't really the type to ride aggressively over the bergs and get into the winning move.

If I'm wrong and it does come down to a field sprint he will naturally be the favourite.

Yeah, I'd usually agree. But I think he might be fired up after yesterday and so will make sure he's there at the finish. Then probably only Goss could take him, but Goss might still be in the clouds after MSR.

Yeah Thomas did give Nuyens an awesome leadout on wednesday. :D

Boonen definitely has to be a big favorite with his team pulling him from E3 in order to be fresher so he can hopefully pick up some WorldTour points for the team. I look for he and QS to try make the race hard for guys like Farrar.

i am really sad about him.

the guy has the potential to be (by a huge margin) the best cobbled specialist ever. what's going on?

he has five cobled monuments right? same as de vlan(bla bla lol) and only one short to mussew? still he has maybe fiver more years ahead of him (as a top podium\winner contender)

I think Matt Goss might actually get this again.

Gent-Wevelgem was his main target for the spring classics this year and he certainly seems to be in decent shape.

What do you think about Romain Feillu?

Cancellara isn't riding with the E3 being more important for him

Finally someone that doesn't get forced to race stupid G-W
Shame Boonen and Gilbert are forced to do G-W:( E3 would be superexciting with them

It's for their supply car not to be dead last in the row. Otherwise he's screwed at the Ronde.

Cancellara will probably win E3, there's 0 competition.

Hey VDB, as someone from Kortrijk, why don't you like GW? What's better about E3, if that's how to correctly read your comments. I've always thought GW was an excellent race.

I personally think it's crap that Movistar and Euskaltel have to do G-W. I mean of what purpose is this race to Ángel Madrazo? He won't even finish. This is the one gripe I have that I have the Pro Tour/World Tour/Whatever you want to call it.

Also it sucks that itsn't midweek now.

Ventoso likes G-W. He's got a couple of good results there, including 4th in a breakaway (the Burghardt year).

But I do get what you're saying. Teams should be allowed to beg out of a race if they want.

I just think teams should have a few races (2 or 3 at the most) that they don't have to do, because it's not suited for them or whatever other reason they can pull out of. I believe that Euskaltel should be able to tell the UCI and ASO, they don't offer anything for Roubaix so they don't have to race, but they can field a competitive squad for the Ardennes, Paris - Nice, the Tour etc., and would do those races instead.

Probably best suited for another thread though.
