I just watched a 1/2 hour coverage of this cicloturismo grand fondo and it
was quite inspiring. This year was a homage to Miguel Indurain´s 20th anniversary Tour win in 1991. He participated along with a number of other x-pros Pedro Delgado of course and including Alexander Valverde (suspended pro). Think what you want of him, he was there to help support cycling as a fitness sport in Spain. It is an annual ride every August, 155 km with 4 mtn climbs, with thousands of cyclist participating, from your fit club racers to your basic obessed cyclist (that´s me), with finish time from 4 hrs to over 8 hrs.
Has anyone here done this one or any other grand fondo? I´m definitely going to make it to next years edition. It leaves Segovia, goes near Madrid and finishes back in Segovia. The plan would be to stay in a hotel in Segovia for two nights arriving the night before. Anyone intersted let´s see if this thread can generate a group to meet up there August 2012.
